MIOPS RemotePlus Camera Trigger

The MIOPS Mobile RemotePlus is a powerful device that combines hardware and software. It works in conjunction with the MIOPS Mobile App (downloadable at App Store and Google Play). Using Bluetooth 4.0 technology, the device transmits signals between your smartphone and DSLR. With the help of the MIOPS Mobile app, you can activate the sensors to capture fast-moving objects. For example, RemotePlus will trigger the shutter whenever your phone shakes or vibrates. You can also use the camera on your phone to detect movements, just aim the phone camera to an area you want to observe. When your smartphone detects motions in the view area, RemotePlus shall trigger your DSLR. MIOPS Mobile App also offers Cable Release and Timelapse Modes. RemotePlus is more than an intervalometer. It also offers Basic, Bulb Ramping, HDR, Road, and Long Exposure Timelapse modes.

Aside from the app’s impressive sensors, RemotePlus itself has dedicated sensors. It can detect lightning strikes. The dedicated sound and laser sensors are helpful when you want to capture high-speed events such as popping balloons.

Using the MIOPS RemotePlus

The MIOPS Mobile app is the control center for the RemotePlus. Each function is made as simple as possible to set up so that you spend as little time possible in getting your shot started. I found the timelapse function saved me quite a bit of time over configuring it within the camera’s firmware screens.

The lightning trigger wasn’t working very well at first, but as the sun continued to set, the success rate got better and better.

The sound trigger CAN work great so long as you are not expecting to get a shot at the instant of the sound, and rather a 1/4 second or so after the sound. This is simply physics at work, sound does not travel as fast as light, so triggering off sound will not be as quick.
